German WW1 10.5CM Marine shell colour

Hi all,
Asking on behalf of a friend...
He has a First war German 10.5cm Marine shell he would like to paint, but is unsure what colour it should be.
Also, would anyone know what the small 'GG' stamps on first war period German shells stands for. It looks to be a makers or inspection stamp.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry Alpini, I should have said the GG related to another shell....But I'll ask for pics of the naval shell.
