German WW1 88mm shell or what?

Hi, I’m sure that someone can tell me what this shell is from. It’s 88mm, has a centering band, comes with what looks like it’s original alloy transit plug but has no markings other than a W within a circle on the base. Is it German, WW1 or earlier and what or who does the W refer to. Any thoughts?

many thanks, Dave

Hello,
Belgian used exactly the same as 8.7cm (with internal fragmentation).
Belgian shell is 220mm long without fuze.
Regards

Many thanks minenaz16, would it be WW1 era?

regards, Dave

Yes ww1 era (and before) and used by German (captured guns) in the North of France.
Usually fuzed with a similar fuze as German Grzc/80 (stamped EP on top, easy to indentify a Belgian fuze !).

Hhere's a couple plans of this type of shell with all the dimensions, coming from the deminest website - the first one is the German and the second is the Belgian:
