Cutaway model of a ‘grenade hand fragmentation M67’. This US designed and manufactured handgrenade has been in service from 1968 to the present day. It was designed in the late 1950’s as the follow up of the M26 series fragmentation grenades.
The grenade consists of two prefragmentated body halves welded together and an internally threaded fuze well, welded to the upper body. The lethal radius of the grenade is approximately 5 meters, the casualty radius is 15 meters.
The fuze used on the grenade is the M213 pyrotechnic delay fuze. It uses the mouse trap ignition system, the spring loaded firing pin held back by the lever. If the lever is released, the rotation spring rotates the firing pin into the firing cap, igniting the 4 seconds pyrotechnic delay. This will ignite the detonator, which detonates the 0,18 Kg = 6.349 ounces (oz) main charge of composition B. The lever is held in position by the split pin with pull ring, an extra safety is formed by the safety clip that has to be removed before the pull ring is removd. This extra safety clip is meant to make shure the grenade cannot be accidentaly activated if the pull ring hooks up with any object during combat movement.
The grenade can be thrown 30 to 35 meters by a trained soldier.
Diameter of the grenade: 67mm (2,5 inch)
Length of the grenade : 90mm (3,53 inch)
Weight of the grenade : 0,397 kg
The M67 grenade is in use with the following countries:
Argentina, Canada, Malasya, Turkey, United states.
