Grenade identification

Hello all,
I’m a long time viewer of this site but first time part contributor.
I am hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this grenade. I picked it up at the War and Peace show last year and the seller told me he had acquired it along with some Japanese militaria. I haven’t found any matches for it so far. Total height is 9 cm, approx diameter is 6 cm and there is a circular opening at one end. Attached are three photos, two showing the overall shape (including damage to the side) and the third shows direct comparison with a Mills no. 36. Any help gratefully received! Justin

Justin. There is one for sale on DugUp's website - Been on there best part of a year. Apparently Jap Practice Gren.

I am curious if anyone knows why these Japanese practice grenades don't resemble any of the grenades they were using at the time? That always seemed strange to me.

Thanks everyone, for the responses. Very helpful. The difference between the real and practice designs is what had me stumped.
