You will find the cap with the red paint came originally from a Gammon bomb (No 82) I think it indicated the tape was shorter than the one normally found on a 247 fuze

That's correct. The red paint on the cap indicates a modification from the original 11 1/2 inch tape to 4 1/2 inches. It was only used on No 82 Gammon bombs.
