Grenade No. 23 Mk III

Picked up today. It would appear that it is a mix of parts. The body appears to be a No. 36 and is marked W E B LD below the filler hole, which would indicate it was manufactured by W.E. Blake Ltd in London England. The striker lever is stamped WEB. It has a thumbscrew type base plug which is marked WEB No 23 MIII and a small portion of the launching rod is still screwed into the base plug.

Hi,

what you have is a very nice No 23/111 which had the same body style as a No 36 but preceded the type for a short while. In fact they were in service together until the No 36 replaced it quite quickly.
Because of its short time in service its actually quite a rare gren and to find one made by a company that made the entire gren is a great find. Much more valuable than a No 36 of the same date.
