Hales Naval Pattern Grenades

A recent thread on Hales pattern grenades showed .303 marked on the body of a 'large No 2 type'. I thought that some would be interested in another Hales grenade marked .303. This was a grenade developed between 1912 and 1914 at the request of the Naval Wing of the Royal Flying Corps for the destruction of balloons and dirigibles. It led to the development of the No 4 and No 10 grenades.

Correct. It is just not a common marking on Hales grenades. The 'No 2 type' of Hales rifle grenade can 'often' be seen with one of four markings:

8M/M
8M/M B
7M/M
B

The .303 marking is unusual.
