help wanted with wicker container

Hello everyone!

I require a bit of assistance - i'm offered a wicker carrier and steel inner tubes, like the one in this auction - http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/wwii-army-artillery-shell-canister-206471512 and i'd like to know is it really ww2 / US issue? And what kind of projectiles/ammo was it used for?

I tried searching online, couldn't find a real answer...

as well as ricks reply i have found a few places online where people have had these for identification saying they are swiss post ww2

Thanks, Spotter, for that IAA link. Those pictured just happen to be in my hands now. "Shotmeister", on the IAA forum, was an avid collector of shotgun shells and this particular item was acquired at my urging, which was then given to me at the 2011 SLICS as it really wasn't in his area of interest. Sadly, the Chief passed away a couple of years ago. RIP Chief.
