Help with 1pr - 37mm

Hello,

We often find in ww1 battlefields 37mm shell with a british design but we have no info. about this type of shell.

-The shell seems to have a plug screwed in place of fuze. This plug is in brass (picture of collection) or something like zinc (picture of field).

-The base has a hole. All shells found have a hole and no base fuze.

So what this shell is used for ? (Practice ?)

I found a picture from Bocn with the same.

Cheers

These are a German tracer made from a modified PD explosive projectile, used for anti aircraft. They are like the British except the upper band is wider, made to the same pattern for the 3.7cm Maxim. As the first example in my group image. The igniter is blown out of the base leaving the hole and the contents burn out - the nose plug if zinc will corrode as your example shows.

Thank you Gspragge.

I saw that the upper band is wider but never thought it was used by German. There is nothing in the current literature.
As it was a tracer without explosive it's very logical we find very often empty round !

Cheers
