Help with grenade det sets please

Good afternoon gents,

I am keen long time militaria collector but not an ordnance collector so I was always going to be much more a reader than a writer here but this forum is a great source of info concerning some of the " background" stuff that is bound to find its' way into any collection.

Because of the general militaria that forms an all important backdrop to my main collection I have two questions I would like to ask in this sub-forum;

1. Simply put is can anyone identify the hand grenade det set in the attached pics? Although similar in appearance it doesn't fit the british L2 or related types and I think it might be a US type. It is missing the spring and striker so is not of much interest to an ordnace collector but I would quite like to add an inert body to it.

2. Again a simple question. I want to add a det set to a german DM48 practice body that I have. Of course the british L2 type fits but that is not correct and even as window dressing is not good enough for my tastes. Does anybody know where I might find a suitable item?

As I said two fairly low level questions for the knowledge base here but I really would appreciate any advice. Who knows I might get smitten and the "background" become something more as I obviously have a latent interest here!

Regards

Looks like the assembly from the us M69 type practice grenades that someone has painted black,the lever should be blue with a brown tip and the striker assembly bare metal

Thanks for the reply Spotter, I thought it was likely American. It isn't black (don't suppose photgraphing against that dark background helped) though it's actually a shade similar to a NATO drab green but not the same as the british IRR green. There is no sign of other colour underneath.

I can see the blue peeking through in spots. It has definitely been painted green as the fuse body is originally anodized and should not be painted. I agree with Spotter's assessment that it is a M228 fuse from a M69 training grenade. I see these quite often here in Canada.

Nice M69's Rick, They sure have an inherent beauty to them (especially earlier phat stencil version) Pieces speak volumes without saying a word. I think they make more of a statement than the M67's (unless full dress stencil of course). Normally the M69 fuzes I see have the tip of fuze that screws into grenade body nipped off................Dano

Yep, dead on! It was only when I looked again at my own photographs that I could see it. Even then I had to look close to see it with the naked eye. Praise be for digital cameras!

So, now I need an M69 body and a det set (sorry, that's what they were called when I did my basic training in the 70's with both L2 and Mills36 believe it or not) for a german M48. See, I knew this could be infectious!

Anybody know where I might source either of these?

Thanks for the help so far gents.
