I would like some help with ID and Technical information please. The shell is a 4in Naval and maybe sound or electronic decoy. It is thought to originate from th3 40s. The squares on the background are 2cm for scale.
It's a shame the images are of such a low resolution, as it makes identification hard. Anyway, I wonder if it's some form of telemetry projectile for the proofing of proximity fuzes? This because not only would it seem to be fitted with a nose proximity fuze, but some form of internal electronics assembly. Something that looks like an antenna would also seem to extend rearwards from the base plate? The only other things I can think of is some form of base-ejection emissive radar jammer (though there's not much of it within the shell), or an emitting target projectile (i.e. the internal components emits a RF signal via what would seem to be a base antenna).
