Good Day! I am amazed at all that I have learned from this sight over the last few days in researching this round. However, I am still unclear on time period, use, etc. I polished the round the best I could to get a better view of the markings. I know it is a SFM( French Society of Munitions) round. I have not been able to locate another one like it online for comparison. Any help with specifics would be greatly appreciated. This belonged to my grandfather and he kept it in his shop as a paperweight. Thank You!

Hello,

The shell is a French 37mm HE model 1916 fitted with Robin type fuze (different fuzes could be used).
Era : WW1 and WW2.
On the top this shell was usually fitted with a flat screw for needle striker.

Regards

this is a good example of an earlier case, 1893, reloaded 2 times with a later projectile, 1915+, or miss matched later.
