Hi all,
I'm here with an identification request coming from a eod friend of the far north !

He found a 15cm shell with dimensions :

overall length : 430 mm
bottom first driving band distance : 30 mm
both driving bands : 17 mm

From pictures and dimensions, it is very similar to the german 15cm Spgr L/3 Bdz, but...... this hexagonal base plate is very strange and very unknown !

Should someone have a correct id of this shell ? Please, if you can help us, add your ref on your answer. Thanks

Yoda

Hello Yoda,

This hexagonal base plate is typically used on french navy shells. I saw this kind of base plate on 100mm, 130mm, 138mm, 152mm.
As far as I'm aware french navy used too 150mm shells with this shape. Look at the "150mm Marine de rupture coiffé modèle 1926" in your doc : same shape (without caps).

Regards

Example : french navy APHE shell 152mm
