Hi,

The first 2 photo's show some Hungarian Smoke Grenades which I haven't seen on the internet before.

Any information on how these worked would be appreciated.

The 3rd photo shows some unidentified Hungarian grenades. Can anyone provide more details?

Thanks,

Gary

Very interesting! Thank you for sharing.

Are there any lot numbers on those on the first image?

The green fuze body on the third image looks like an ARGES design.

Hello Gary,

on the first photo you can see smoke (LtR 2., 3.) and CN tear gas (LtR 1., 4.) grenades what produced in 70's(?), 80's and used the military and police until about 2000.
The working mechanism is simple:
After you remove the transport cap you can seen the firing mechanism's cord. The "fuze" is a simple "burning lighter", same a for example the German BZE39.
The fuze ignite a small powder delay charge what make 1-2s delay and after this ignite the smoke/tear gas material.

The 51M kdkzigrnt's (smoke-handgreande) working mechanism is also simple.
After you remove the alu transport cap, you can see a second paper cap with a red phospor surface under its center. After this removed (with a little cord) you can see a magnesium cylinder (on the top of it have a little material what same(?) as the safety matche's heads) what be in a hole in the grenade. With the paper cap you can ignite this magnesium cylinder, as a matches. The magnesium cylinder burn out the grenade's body and ignite the smoking material (I don't know what is this).

Hi Janos,
Thanks a lot for the info and photo's - I didn't even realise that 2 of the grenades were tear gas!
Any ideas on the designation or purpose of the grenades in the last photo?
Thanks again,
Gary

EOD, these grenades don't have LOT numbers. Maybe on the packing, but I never seen original pack yet. These are rare, old pieces.
Gary, the blue is a sound simulatorm in my opinion used for practice. But if I remember right I said when I sold it to you. :)
From the second greande of the last picture I don't have info.

Hi Janos,

Fair point about the practice grenade but I hoped you might have more information by now - like you did for the 51M smoke grenades which you also sold me.

Could you also help with a short translation of the key differences between the different grenades in the attached pages from a militia manual?

Do Hungarians read up and down then, instead of left to right ?:wink::wink:

Tony, I thought about apologizing, but everyone should know by now that I have no control on which way up the images appear!
You just have to turn the computer sideways!!!!

Aah yes, that works for me !

Just some more scans.

As far as I can tell, the first 2 scans relate to the HE version, the last 2 relate to the practice (gyakorlo) version:

The 1st grenade in the last picture is a Smokeless Sound and Light grenade from the Nike-Fiocchi factory.
