I like the history between these....

Hi Mark,Superb aircraft, just a point of interest,on the first vid at 11-33,there is a clip of a Typhoon taxying past a camera, note there are 12 gun ports and 12 ejector slots under the wing,so that is a very early model 1A,a phenominal aircraft once the bugs were elimenated,I would like to hear the real sound of the Napier Sabre at full chat, that would be music of a different kind, have you read the books Lonely Warrior and The Big Show,by Pierre Closterman and Jean Offenberg,or Day of the Typhoon by John Golley, they are good reading about the Tyhpoon in action written by the pilots, the latter all about the Normandy air offensive, many thanks for posting,
Regards,
Don,

Don,

I will see if I can still get them by looking on line. By the way Don, was the Tempest that big of an improvement over the Typhoon?

Hi Mark,I think the "thin wing Typhoon"as it was known was a marked improvement over the early Typhoon, the early Typhoons had a thick wing which did limit performance, the redesign/modification of the airframe led to the Tempest, more powerful engine, four blade prop and cleaned up fuselage, one mod they had to do to increase fuel tankage was to move the engine forward to allow a fuel tank to be fitted, the FW 190 was easy prey to the Tempest, which would do over 500mph in a dive,as with the Typhoon the Tempest was a formidable ground attack aircraft,4 20mm cannon plus 8 rockets gave it a hell of a punch, from what I have learned it was a bit dodgy during takeoff and could catch out the unwary, the torque from that big engine and prop needed careful handling, note in the film of one during take off,the rudder working overtime keeping it straight, the airframe was so good they replaced the Sabre (sleeve valve)with a big radial (sleeve valve) hence Tempest,Fury and Sea Fury,if you cannot find those books,pm me your address and I will post them to you,
Cheers,
Don,
