ID help please

Pictured here is a WWI relic that recently arrived in a trade deal. I know many of you blow boogers at relics but I just love 'em. Was ID'ed as a French WWI mortar shell bottom but I'm not sure. Any help in ID would be greatly appreciated...Dano

Thanks Waff, And I do absolutely love the piece. With the relics one does get the sense that it was THERE. The relics are definately right up there amongst my favorite pieces. Best.....Dano
