Hi, a museum in the area asked for our help in IDing an item and we are stumped. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Rob,
It is a British 9 lb studded shell with a transit plug in place by the look of it. This is a Woolwich made shell as the RL indicates, they came in different sizes/ weights some solid shot as well.

Are the increments inches?
Possibly HE with a plug fitted//
RL - Royal Laboratories? Canada being a Commonwealth country.9
/12 - September 1812 - Studded projectiles in 1912?
Tip - either actually measure it & report data or use a rule in the pics.
