I have known this since about the Contra Affair with the CIA involvement. Somebody, and I do not remember who it was, posted a picture of a UZRGM fuse with a number just below the threads, I believe it showed a No 8 on it. Those numbers mean detonation times in seconds. They came from 0 - 13 seconds in length of time.
Some captured by our SF during that incident found grenades in canned juices or anything else that could be canned. The fuses were not in the same can. Essentually, depending on the time fuse you could use the grenade with a shorter delay, like a 0-2 seconds would be great for use in Booby-Traps. A 3 could be used for quick detonation for house to house clearing. It would also provide virtually no oppurtunity for a throw back.
The longer seconds you can use your imagination with any of these times. Scarry thought is it not.
NOTE: If you are an EOD on a mission say in Central America this is the time to be very aware of the grenades recieved from ANYbody if you were to come across a few F-1's and check the time fuse just below the thread. The numerical numbers will either be in red or a black on the side of the fuse.
If you know about it already and can add more info about this then please make corrections on this thread.
