Japanese WWII Type 99 Magnetic Anti Tank Grenade - Market Price

I found one of these, in good shape, for sale at $400. Considering that commonly found Japanese hand grenades are $200 in the US, this price does not seem too out of line. I was hoping to get some feedback on the market price of this item.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Steve

There is no market price. For many Japanese items there are not enough pieces available to establish one. Generally the demand is high, so it depends on who has money in their pockets at that time, has interest, and if there are two of them to fight over it.

You mean the Type 99 Magnetic Anti Tank Mine. It isn't a grenade. Just make sure that it isn't one of the training models from the US made training kit. If it is complete and original then my advice is for you to snap it up without any hesitation. I know that I would.

Don't forget to make sure that it isn't one of those US made training models though.

Thank you for your help. He has a nice Type 93 land mine also. What is a reasonable price for one of those?

Here is an old thread which has a link to the American manual for the Japanese mine training set. These American made replicas look very good, so as Bougainville has advised make sure what is on offer is of original Japanese manufacture........you may get an idea of the American made mines from the pics in the manual in the link below....

I wish you luck and hope they are what you think they are.....

M8owner,

i've attached a picture of a type99 that actually came from the 'American trainink kit'

It can be easily identified as such, seen the magnets are not magnetic ;-)

This example is a part of Olafo's collection, so he for sure can tell you more about it.

The training kit also had a Type 93 mine. I wonder if he also has a Yard Stick Mine and also a Type 3 Ceramic Mine? All of which were also found in the training kit.

As for a price for the Type 93 Mine. It all depends on the location of sale. This also holds true for all other Japanese Ordnance. There is a chap in China that was selling them in the past for a tad over $100 each. In the US well if it was an original one I can imagine that it would be a heap more and be attuned to what one would expect to pay for a Type 99 Magnetic Mine. Maybe starting around $300. That is my guesstimate. See if you can obtain some estimates from others and then average them out and you shouldn't go wrong.

Remember though that prices are flexible and firstly depends on what the seller is happy with and also the condition and completeness as well as extras that aren't normally seen.

Here are the links to PDF files that I uploaded with detailed information on both the Type 99 Magnetic Mine and the Type 93 Mine;
