L Mine Mk 1

What can anyone tell me about this item?
It is made of some heavy alloy (Mazac?) non-magnetic. 45x263R.
48mm OD. The base part is 27mm long. Hard to tell if one or two piece case construction.
Base is threaded to 15mm face. The blind domed pocket is 17mm wide and 70mm deep.

Case print seems to be: "L" MINE MK 1. P.M.D. C.E. 1.1.B.1.N. 12. 40 LOT 4

I also have a Mk 2 case somewhere that was made from brass.
How is this case used? It looks British.

Ron,

I think you have an exploder from a 'L' mine, which was a shore controlled mine.

The P.MD might be a reference to Ammunition Factory Derwent Park - MD.

It appears to me as CE 1LB IN - which I would translate as CE (Composition Exploding (Tetryl) 1 lb, Mark 1 Naval

I looked on internet for L Mines and I still know nothing about them. Does someone have a photo to show size, etc. Ron.
I agree it is 1 lb. I get a better view when I enlarge my photo than looking through a magnifying glass. Never thought of this before.
