L13A1 CS Grenade

Good Evening all.

I would like to ask for some additional information on the old L13A1 rubber bursting CS grenade if I may?

The specs I have for it which are dated 1984 state that it is 66mm in diameter, weighs 583g and it has a grey tinplate cover. I have found other resources which state that it is 175mm in length.

What I do not know however is where the 175mm length is measured from.

Would anyone happen to know if the length of the grenade is measured from;

a) The top of the striker assembly to the bottom of the rubber body?

b) The top of the grey tinplate cover to the bottom of the rubber body?

c) The top of the rubber body to the bottom of the rubber body?

I would also like to know the diameter, thickness, and height of the grey tinplate cover, and how high and thick the outer 'rim' is around the bottom of said cover.

Lastly, I would kindly request to know the thickness of the rubber body please. From images I have it would appear to be around 3mm thick, but it is difficult to tell from images alone.

As I can't seem to procure an example of one from anywhere, I am going to make my own replicas. I already have the correct striker assemblies and have found a good material for making the bodies with. I then intend to get some rubber stamps made so that I can mark the bodies accordingly.

I understand it is a lot of info to ask for, and any guidance would be very welcome and greatly appreciated.

Thanks and kind regards,

Gary

Hi Gary,

a) The top of the striker assembly to the bottom of the rubber body? 174mm

b) The top of the grey tinplate cover to the bottom of the rubber body?
148mm

c) The top of the rubber body to the bottom of the rubber body?
132mm (measured from the bottom of the tin plate cover) on its own the rubber body is 147mm long.
I would also like to know the diameter, thickness, and height of the grey tinplate cover, and how high and thick the outer 'rim' is around the bottom of said cover. The cover is 62mm in diameter and 16mm deep including the rolled edge .The rolled edge is 3mm high. Diameter of rolled edge is 66mm. The tin plate is 0.5mm thick. The rubber is around 3mm thick .

Hope this answers all your questions.
Cheers
Gary

Thank you both very much indeed for taking the time to reply. Thanks also for such a detailed response. I will look up the thread on stencilling/marking and set about finding a good place to get the rubber stamps made in the right font. I want these replicas to be as close to the original as possible so I will strive for the best detailing that I can create.
