While visiting the favorite daughter I had the pleasure of spending time with the son-in-law's brother, a retired Louisiana State Trooper who had been assigned to EOD during his tenure. One of the displays on his "I Love Me" wall included this badge:

I found it interesting that it incorporated the Scales of Justice in its design. Sadly, he only had the one example, BUT, he had some leftover goodies he was glad to share. Crimping pliers, continuity tester, blasting machine and shock tube initiator. All stored in a bag in his attic. An area we spent most of our time together, digging through stuff. Reminiscing as he went. The bad news was he'd left the batteries in the devices, which did what batteries do when left for a few years, which rendered the devices useless. Still great for display. The exteriors look like new but the innerds are destroyed. Boo!

Admitting his exploits in the area of EOD were less than exciting, he noted the bulk of his experience was accepting cannon balls and other Civil War era items found in attics by widows who were scared of it and wanted it gone. He did mention getting to punch holes in a train wrecked propane tank car with shaped charges. Two holes to vent the gas which was then set to fire. He wished it had been more spectacular but said all it did was burn.

Now, he teaches religion at a Catholic high school. Something you other EOD types might consider in your golden years.
