M24 cord and ceramic ring

Can anyone tell how to attach the cord to the ceramic ring on a M24 grenade? There must be a simple way, as thousand upon thousand were done.

Pass the loop throgh the ring, then pass the ring though the loop and pull tight.

No that is not the correct way, it's a little more complicated than that.

Yes it is more complicated than that. I have some originals and I can with a lot of work thread my cord to look like them, but there has to be an easier way.

I know what it should look like, but how do you get it to tie like this?

I believe it is fairly easy to figure out from the nice drawing, but I am not able to explain it English.

It is easy to tie,

You pass the loop through the ring and between the two pieces of the long part of the loop, you then pass the end of the loop over the ring and pull tight.
