Can someone help me with the markings on the round. I know it is a M56A4 HEI. Wondering about the rest of the marks. I usually see A in the code as South African.

20-MM X 138

Length W/O Fuze: 139-MM

It looks to me like a 20x102 vulcan projectile on a 20x139 shellcase. So , as far as I know a wrong combination.
Regards, DJH

Hi Joe,

For sure a 20x102 projectile on a 20x139 case.

I have a similar "A-O-1-44-74-M56A4 " marked projectile that came on an aluminum 20x102 M103 experimental case.
As far as i can tell, it is original to that experimental lightweight case, but i don't know who made it...

Geert.

Both case and link are Dutch.
NWM = Nederlandse Wapen- en Munitiefabriek "De Kruithoorn", 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands
MFT = Metaalwaren Fabriek Tilburg, Tilburg, The Netherlands

The NWM produced the M56A3 HEI, but not in combination with the 20 x 139 mm case.

I also have an M56 -E2 HEI by NWM which is red and yellow at the top.Painted half and half.
The M56A3 has an all yellow projectile as shown.
I also have an M56A4 in a IVI case but no primer.
Black print is: RNO84E010-008M56A4. It is yellow with a red band at the fuze like the original query.
