A member has shown an interest in this item for his book. It is the M82, 90 lb frag bomb, inert as it was a factory sample. My friend's father owned the factory in WWII. It also has the M103 fuze. (also inert) The bright green paint was put on to protect it from rust after WWII. I cleaned it off the fuze to examine it.
I would be interested in information on the M5 parachute unit that was used with it. There very little on the net.
I took some pics so you could see the delay and Instant settings as well as the "clock work" inside.
Here is what he said about the factory. I'll put some pics of M10 rocket up later.
"Glad to see it enjoyed. My daddy Fred Bahnson owned and operated Southern Steel Stampings Inc in Winston on Junia Ave. They made a lot of stuff for Bahnson Co. but they were "commissioned" to go into war manufacturing. They made bazookas, bazooka rockets, grenade spoons and fuses, and the aerial bombs like you saw. They also made some practice bombs about 4 ft long. I barely remember seeing some of those around the plant circa 1953-54? No paperwork that I have ever seen."
