Markings on naval 150mm AP projo. "S" stamp for British made for export?

Waiting for more pics but I know of a large AP 150mm naval projo stamped with a large "s" on the bottom. No other markings. The drive bands are naval, I believe the projo might be of British origin. Anybody know what the "S" might mean?

Jim,

At 9 o/c on the base (opposite the 'S') will be an 'F', and together they mean 'Forged Steel'. If the based is cleaned a little other marks will probably appear, all on the edge rather than the centre.

Thank you for the reply. I was told it is Japanese but I believed it to be of British origin. Is it common to see these "f" and "s" marks on British made projectiles? Thanks

Very common Jim. It's almost certainly a 6in naval shell.
