MG 131 13x64

Hi to all,
trying to find out some info on the early (late 30's dated) 13x64 MG 131/13 rounds that don't have the case belt.
I often hear the word 'experimental' banded around with these rounds(pun intended) but to my mind there does seem to be an awful lot of these rounds around to be experimental.
Could it be case of these were just early service rounds and the case belt added later to solve a problem...ie head/case separation?
Been trawling the internet to find information on these rounds but I don't know if it's just me but it seems the internet is getting more and more useless each day to find things I am actually looking for....seems to be more interested in looking for stuff it wants to!
Any info on these rounds would be great.

Cheers
Tony
