Midway (2019)

Another re-telling of the Battle of Midway https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6924650/. Just came back from cinema from a free screening for US veterans (my wife was in the Navy during Nam). Very macho, a lot of military bravado, but also, maybe for the 1st time on silver screen, acknowledgement of Japan being denied access to oil, and subsequent frictions. Overall a very good effort, even with occasional wit. Great CGI battle scenes, a lot of ammo in the air.

I saw it yesterday too.
Not bad for Roland Emmerich. Not as deep as Private Ryan or Hacksaw Ridge but I left the cinema with a feeling of well spent time.
I understand that some scenes had to be "modified" for the sake of visual effect.
Will have to look up how long does it take for the tailfuze to arm or what was the actual distance between SBDs during the dive.

The Japanese side of the battle you can read the book Midway by Mitsuo Fuchida and Masatake Okumiya.
