This is in Mint condition, made by JPS

Not sure what all the markings mean??.

Unless it's just coincidence, TW14A is the drawing number for "Grenade, Hand, Instructional, No.36M MarkI /L/" (aka three-quarter section). Since HT&S only made components (and only levers as far as I'm aware) then maybe they saw fit in some cases to mark up the lever with a drawing number to which they were working. Bonnex will have the facts...

Not much to add. The lever is clearly for the quarter sectioned No 36 with a design date of October 1946 and it would not ordinarily be issued with a Service or Drill grenade. Of course in a unit levers could easily get mixed up between a sectioned instructional grenade and a drill grenade. For those with an eye for such things the marked lever is uncommon and would make an owner of a genuine quarter sectioned No 36 very happy. What follows is going to be turgid but you did ask!

The notation (TW14A) is a 'part number' or 'drawing number' (both the terms part and drawing are used to describe the notation in official documentation). The designers number might be different (in this case it is CIA(A)2864).

TW was a letter group assign to grenades or grenade parts. The 'A' suffix refers to Assembly and the essential ingredient is that it does not contain energetic material. The 14 is just a serial number for the TW Assemblies, ie it is the fourteenth TW A. Some others in this group are shown below. Ammunition Letter Group decodes include QV (SAA and component 1-inch and under), QW (Pyro), QX (Initiating stores such as fuzes), RW (Cartridges not in QV), RX (Rockets), SX (Projectiles), SV (Packaging), TV (Mortar Bombs), TX (Mines and demolition stores).



Filled assembles are identified by an AF suffix (eg TW9AF Grenade Smoke X1E1 Cartridge Filled). Other suffixes include GA (General Arrangement), GE (Arrangement Empty), GF (Arrangement Filled).
