Mills Bomb Base Plug Threads

Does anyone know what the specifications are for the center hole in the grenade base plug? I want to tap one to fit a gas check on it. It doesn't seem to be a standard US thread so I'll probably need to buy a set of taps once I know the size. Thanks!!
