Hi. I have been a long time reader of the forum, but yet to actually post a comment or create a new thread. I myself am getting into collecting ordnance which is certainly an interesting field of collecting. Amazing amount of information to learn which I am sure will be never ending.

Anyway I have a question that I would be interested to be answered if possible. Certainly not difficult, but none the less I am quite keen to find an answer. I have just recently got a Mills Bomb No.5 Mk. 1 1915 dated D & B manufacturer. Certainty an interesting item and in very good condition except for the filling Screw. The person before my had taken it in and out several times without using a proper screw driver so as you could imagine it is not in good shape. The screw seems to be alloy, but I have not been able to find much information on them. I have read they had brass plugs, but were there alloy as well?

Also would anyone happen to know where I could buy a new filling screw? Woudl anyone happen to have a spare they would be willing to sell?

Thank you in advanced for any information that you can say in regards to this.

Regards,
Matthew

The first filler screws were aluminium, but brass soon followed. Finding a surplus original aluminium screw in good condition is likely to be difficult though. Original brass ones are to be had, often scavanged from dug up field finds. Probably the best way to go for a good condition grenade rather than obtaining a replica part - nice to keep it all original.

I have a good stock of original brass filler screws.

PM me for postage and prices etc.
