Mills bomb ?

I have had this for years I believe it to be a deactivated Mills bomb and wondered if it was WW1 or WW 2 and where it was made issued to ect.

Why a moneybox? I admit that the bottom plug looks odd but where's the slit to put the coins in?Striker is missing so are maybe the spring and center tube?
 
The base plug is from a moneybox. In your first photo it looks like a slit for money but it may just be shadow.
 
Yes it has a slit and I think your right money box . But would like to know more . If as above mills bomb 5/23 were these British and made where in Britain? We're all units issued with these or just certain regiment s ?
 
Yes British made. Lots of makers all over the UK. Best place to look at makers is


All infantry regiments would have been trained in the use of the Mills with most soldiers carrying a couple into battle. There were also specialist bombers who were additionally trained in trench raids, rifle grenades and foreign grenade use.
