Mk XVII excercise mine Visual Mine Fire Indicator colour

Does anyone know what the correct colour for the Visual Mine Fire Indicator should be? (its the float that comes to the surface with a flare attached for umpires to see, if a ship triggers the mine). I have one of the floats, it was painted white but them overpainted in a khaki colour. I suspect the latter is an out of service application. Was the float originally white like, say, a practice bomb?

Anyone got any thoughts?

Many thanks, Dave
