More packaging, German, late war.

Here is the container for 36 Teilkartuschen , and inner liner. Dated 1945, this is an early example of recycling. A few of these containers came on the market about thirty years ago, presumably from a store somewhere.
The inner is 8cm in diameter, as would be expected, and shows 12 charges. The labels have been corrected by hand.
All, so far, straightforward. But what did the charge itself actually look like?

This cardboard container is for storing 12 augmenting charges (Teilkartuschen) for the 12 cm mortar 42 together with 4 flash reducing charges (Kartuschvorlage).

The cardboard container was a substitute for 2 metal containers which were normaly used for packing 12 augmenting charges. Three cardboard containers were packed in the cardboard box.

Two 12 cm mortar shells were packed in a wooden ammo crate, for each mortar shell there were 6 augmenting charges available and 2 flash reducers.

The augmenting charges and the flashreducers were attached to the tail section of the mortar shell (wrapped around the shaft).

Many thanks, Greif. and I am grateful.
I have examples of 5cm and 8cm mortar bombs, including HE rebound, but the larger 12cm ammunition is far less common.
Similarly 2" and 3" British mortar bombs turn up regularly, whereas the 4.2" do not.
This reuse of cardboard containers, wch by their nature, are not particularly robust, is remarkable.
Presumably the 8cm and 12cm natures remained in service in Germany until the fifties or thereabouts.
