Naval Transport boxes

Evening All,

Is there a defined period when for example the RN /RAN stopped using brass handles on transit boxes such as used for torpedo gyros /pistols etc and instead used roped type handles?

I asked as I have come across several 18" torpedo pistol boxes, mainly wood and all have brass carrying handles. I have been informed that by WW2 most handles were rope.

So my initial thoughts that these type of brass handles may stem from WW1 up to early WW2?

Thoughts?

Thanks

Cheers
Drew
