need information on U.S. mortar ignition cartridges, please
At a show recently I bought a small box of stuff that seemed to be all U.S. WWII vintage, including some 1943 and 1944 dated Garand and M1 carbine ammo, etc. Included in the box were two round cardboard cases that each contained an ignition cartridge for a U.S. 4.2-inch mortar. The rounds are green and produced by Federal. The rounds and cases are in fine shape, except the top of one case is bent a bit.
I do know from some Internet research the U.S. 4.2-inch mortar was introduced in 1943 to throw smoke and HE rounds. It was used in Korea as well. Because I don't really collect ordnance, I have no idea whether the cartridges are uncommon or even collectible at all. I also have no idea what their value might be here in the U.S.
If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance for any replies....
