Certainly the right date for early British interest in Energa grenades which was rekindled in 1949 (they started in 1946 but the WO decided to abandon the idea of rifle grenades in 1947). The first trials were held at Shoeburyness on 18 Jan 1950, just too early for your container. Other trials were held subsequently so maybe it fits into one of the later 50 or 51 programmes - if it is connected to Britain that is.
