no15 maker and casting info needed.

hi guys.havent been on here for a while and thought i would show a pic of a latest restoration :)of a no15 grenade that was given to me by a friend .the question is im looking for info on the casting of no15 regarding horizontal and centercasting of the bodys . .why was they cast differently . was it like in the mills or different years or manufacturers.
also has anyone got any info regarding manufacturers markings.number15.jpg.

hi guys.just thought id bump this again. . im not having much luck with the info:(
 
Darrol . What do the marks say ? It's hard to see them on your scan . Also , most of the No15's you see are Russian copies from the 1920's so it could be one of those .

hi .the markings look like CC over another character i thinks a 3 on the one on the pic and P.B NW 15 on the base of the other.whats the diferences in the brit an russian versions?

CC is likely to be Carron Co. of Falkirk. I'd think PB NW is most probably Platt Brothers (New Works) of Oldham - on Mills grenades usually seen as PBO.

Darrol, by the end of 1915 alone Britain had supplied around 5.6 million ball and oval (Nos 15 and 16) grenades to Russia, and in 1916 continued to send to Russia the remainder of the unwanted stocks of both types. At least 30 British firms made ovals and I believe many of the same companies made balls; most makers monogram/initials on the dug grenades that emerge out of Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland appear to be of British companies. I don't know anything about foreign copies, so cannot add anything about them.
