No20 Restoration Project..

Hello.
I have bought a no20 grenade a few years ago. I have only got around to cleaning it up recently,
The rifle rod was snapped off about 6cm below the base of the grenade.
The fuse plug was missing and all the internals. The body was full of dirt and mud and every thing was seized up.

I freed up all the brass parts with heat including the broken rifle rod and picked up a set of reproduction spares which i will age in good time. Please don't persecute me for this... :)

However I have some questions and hope someone can help.
Can someone please confirm that the thread of the det plug cap is 9/16" at 12 tpi?

My base section has me confused and hope some one else can help.
I was expecting a full length centre brass tube and it being free. However as you can see I have a much shorter centre tube and it appears very well stuck to the base has anyone seen this before or have any ideas to free it or am i wrong in my idea?

[edit] I have found some drawings with full length centre tubes and half length are the diffrent mk? or manufacturer based?

Regards
Bart

Nice grenade Bart. I look forward to seeing the photographs of it when its all restored.

Dave.

@Dave, Cheers.

The brass aging seems to be taking awhile.....

I am considering repainting the body as the but dont like the new look paint job that is seen at times.
Any one have any ideas on this matter.

If any one has information on the colour tints that would be appreciated.
I assume bs381c was not around in ww1.

Bart
