brass cone.JPGI'm not sure what this is and would like any (sensible) suggestions, the dia is about 57mm but the groove is too high for a 6pr British naval.
 
I don't know what it is, but I've got one and would be interested to know. The height of the unknown is 100mm and is shown with a No.80 cap for comparison.

Looks similar to the nose of the naval 2.25" flare rocket, i have a steel one of similar form.
Maybe this is an earlier type?

Totally out of my comfort zone but could it be a ballistic cap,something along the lines of the type found on 17pdr AP?
