In early time of the NVA re-useable grenades of different types were used. In this practice grenades a 26 mm cartridge was inserted. This cartridge has a delay of 3,2 - 4,5 s. After the delay a detonating compound was ignited. The imitation cartridge was painted in red. It was forbidden to use this cartridge in flare pistols.
