Could someone please identify this projectile for me? Calibre is 25mm (maybe 25.4mm?). Distance from base to driving band is 9mm, width of driving band is 5mm, distance from base to centering band is 37mm, width of centering band is 3mm, length of projectile body (without fuze) is 53mm, total length of projectile (including fuze) is 81mm. Thank you!

The round was used in the Vickers-Terni ( Fiat-Revelli) aircraft gun. It is beautifully made, a Ferrari of a projectile. I often think it was too nice to be used!

Hello,
the shell was not used on Vickers-Terni and Fiat (different cartridge) but in the 25/41.
here the incendiary shells

What was the 25/41? The Vickers was a rimed case, and was supposed redesigned by Revelli into rimless, and the gun modified to the Fiat?

Hello highlandotter,
here 25/41

While we are on the subject, what is the purpose/function of the projectiles with the forward-facing holes in the ogive?

incendiary shells, holes for flames.

Correct. Same shell filled with smoke composition used as tracer. Shell marked on body CI (=carica incendiaria=incendiary) CF (=carica fumogena=tracer)

Yes, but at least some of the Vickers and FIAT projectiles were common to both cartridges, were they not?

Were the projectiles for the 25/41 different from the others?

Vickers and Fiat had in common canister, Incendiary/smoke, practice and pointed HE shells.

25/41 based on 25mm Nordenfeld, so with driving an centering band. I think these shell are machined from old stock. Unfortunely not easy to find 25/41 shells.
best regards
