Ordnance?

Located by a beach goer outside of our AO. Details provided by a local LEO, it is currently secured pending ID---

It's a rusty iron sphere, the size of a baseball, about 3.5 pounds. There is a brass device sticking out of it which swivels slightly, and which is threaded on the inside; inside the brass device is a piece of wire that can be pulled on, which may go into the sphere. I did not find any images of historic ordnance that matched the object exactly, but there were so many close resemblances I decided not to risk it. Any time I see rough iron paired with finely-machined brass, I think historic ordnance.

Hi,

That was my first thought, but the diam is too small, plus there would be a threaded hole or a thread for the rod.

Regards,

S.

Looks similar to a French WW1 bracelet grenade, but the fuse looks different, but does have a thin brass wire.
