OVMS Wilmington, OH Find #3, IJA 20mm rounds for Type 98

Other finds from the OVMS Show. I'm familiar with the Type 100 HE, but not with black bands. You can still faintly see the "100" stencil and the black bands look original to it also. The other one I only found a brief reference for on the interweb and says it's a practice. It still has some stenciling on the casing, but only a small stamp on the projo. More information would be appreciated. Thanks, Bruce.

Couldn't reference any BLACK BAND markings. (Ken Elks book & TM 9-1985-5)
Maybe lightly scratch or sand the bands to see if they're painted over. Might show a more applicable color.
The top band is probably red. Central bands are probably Green and yellow(maybe white).
The kanji on the projectile looks to be Tokyo arsenal stamp.

The 17.1 ink stamping denotes date of manufacture according to Showa era. = JAN '42 (The "A", I don't know)
The lower marking, I believe, is the city of manufacture. Probably Tokyo.

Thanks Rick. I have several of the 100's with the green, red, yellow so it puzzles me with the black. I couldn't find any references to them either. I'll look again, but I didn't see where there was any underlying colors on the 100 marked round. Is it a possibility that the black might be a late war practice? Do you know of any mention of the dummy steel fuzed practice round?

I figured you were familiar with the color bands. The black ones are a stumper. My guessing an overpaint is the best I could come up with.

A shame ogreve and Bougainville are no longer active here. Their knowledge of all things Japanese is missed.

Upon further research, I downloaded the "Japanese Projectiles, Volume(s) I & II, 30 April 1945", from the download section here on BOCN and discovered that the "practice" projectile uses a dummy fuze patterned after the Type 93 Small Instantaneous Fuze. Put my Type 93 in the projectile to try the size and it fits perfectly and matches the profile.
