Having spent many many hours walking on mudflats and rocky coastal areas, I have seen hundreds of such things, it is steel cable with a ferrous fitting on the end that has over the years built up a layer of concretion. I cannot see anything ordnance related in that picture,
Best regards Weasel.

I was beginning to doubt myself, I looked and looked again at the photo and was trying to see the hidden mysterious object, in the end I gave up thinking the wrong photo had been posted.
Having said that I am pleased that someone took the time and trouble to ask the question before they have carried the 'unknown mysterious object that they suspect to be ordnance' back home and taken photos asking if it is safe!!! Well done that man Arthur2Sheds !!! I wish more people were like you. My only reason for not replying was that I couldnt see any item of ordnance, so maybe I ought to also take a lesson from Weasels book and reply earlier - sorry.
