The strangest thing happened to me a couple of days ago. I bid on an item on Quickfire, received a message saying "Congratulations, you have won this item for £..." Great I thought. Later that night I received an email saying I had been outbid on the item !!!!! Anyone had similar happenings ?

Not your situation, but I have had so many strange situations on that site I stopped using it.

Sometimes sellers find that the buyer are from outside the UK, unfortunately thanks to the terrorism troubles people don't want the risk of a parcel being stopped. Same the other way.

Hi Matt,
Just checked on the site and if you re-read your message it will probably say you was the winning bidder at that time and unfortunetly you was then outbid about 20-30 seconds later

Hi Hoeksel, just popped in the site to see if i could trace any of strange situations that you had and i see you had never activated your account due to having an IP blocker active is there anything specific i could help you with?
Rch

Well, that is one of the strange situations. I am not aware of an IP blocker (I am not a computer n00b) still I indeed never managed to get an account. But besides that, the site is often not accesible and/or slow, and with the help of some BOCN members I can place bids (thanks guys, you know who you are!) but I missed out on items where I really thought I won the item.....some months back items completely disappeared! That is why I hardly visit the site anymore.

Hi Gerry, getting me an account or explaining reasons why it could look I have an IP blocker might help as well, I could give it another try ;-).

Hello Gerry....thanks for the info.....it is academic now anyway. I saw what I saw.........it's not a problem. I was going to spend too much anyway. Keep up the good work. Regards...Matt

Hi Hoeksel,
yes we did have a problem with the site running slow and sometimes inaccessible a while back, the reason for this was that for some reason, or rather reasons known only to the owners of the host server, they decided to 'share' our bandwidth with another host site.
We have now 'sacked' the host server owner and indeed the owner of the DNS server and have now moved to the Nederlands, hence the 1 hour difference to GMT, we have also a new internal messaging system that works perfectly.
We have no records of auctions vanishing on the admin side of the site,I think you'll find these are buy it out sales that often sell within minutes of being listed.
The site is running very well now and very fast...times of loading the site and pages are now mostly around 0.047685 seconds
