Thank you for posting them, i was lucky to pick one of these up last year after quite a few years of searching for one. Do you happen to know where this was taken, looks like it could be the far east ?

This was what I was told;

It is in a chapter titled "Cape Gloucester Dec 1943- April 1944" but the caption was just generic.

I'm not sure that using a pile of full ammo boxes is the best protection ~
 
The canisters were very widely used in the pacific theater
I acquired one about 20 years ago at a gun show
If I had known then what I know now I'd have bought the case
He had he was selling them for $30.00 each
