I went out exploring the coast around Plymouth this weekend and came across a battery i had not known even existed, i guess that will explain why its still in really good condition. The site is called Renney Lentney Battery they two batteries are separated by about 500 mtrs and Renney is on private land, so this time i just stuck to exploring Lentney. Built in 1905 it had two 6" breach loading guns covering Plymouth sound in the coastal defence roll, straight across the water in Cornwall is the other end of Plymouths coastal defences in the form of Penlee Battery, now sadly bulldozed into oblivion.
The batteries were used post war as a Naval gunnery training station until the late 1950's when they were sold off and the guns and equipment scrapped, i had a good look around and was plesantly supprised by the lack of vandalism normally found at these sites and the original equipment still in situ.
