restore or not

Deciding whether or not to restore this French WW1 Guidetti mortar shell. I like it in present form but have been leaning toward restoration projects lately. What do you think. Does anyone have a picture of original colors.

MORTAR - muzzle loading indirect fire weapon that fires shells at low velocities, short ranges, and high arcing ballistic trajectories. Typically barrel length is less than 15 times its caliber.

Dano, personally I wouldn't restore this one but put a clear coat of vernis
on it to preserve its present state.

Regards, Jan

Sounds like an excellent idea to me Jan. I think that's what i'll do. The clear coat will also darken the patina...Dano
