Hello,

I found a picture on the internet but I can't find details on this grenade.

Does anyone know this one ?

Regards

Details in English can be found in Sgt Lynn's book, The Grenade Recognition Manual Vol. 3, Warsaw Pact 2007. This grenade was followed by the Dyakonova, which is often confused with theWW1 406 frag grenade. The big difference is the latter one can be fired with ordinary bullet containing ammo, and the grenade has a pointed appearance.

WW140.6 fragmentation shell, WW1 and later. The Russians had some very sophisticated grenades in WW1. I had 7 of them and I was amazed at the complexity when other countries were tossing 17th century round shot at each at each other. Production problems due to soldering sheet metal and machining probably made them rare at the front.

Sgdbdr,
Where did you find that old Russian text? What is the name of the publication and where can I find it? Thanks aforehand.

Try bigordnance.com They have the book, a copy of 1918 Russian manual. Also, the grenade rcognition manual, vol 3, Warsaw pact 2007 , Darryl W. Lynn, is available from book sellers which is in English and has material on Russian WW1 and later grenades from Warsaw pact nations.

I've never seen a Russian 7.62x54R grenade blank. Anybody got one?

As I know it was standart 7,62x54 mm rifle cartridge, wich uses till now. Nothing special. And in article wrote, that in begine of 1917 produced grenades, which can be shoot by standart cartridge.

I doubt it could be launched by a standard ball cartridge. The grenade has no hole thru like Diakonov has. Also the Russian WW1 rifle grenades with long rod in barrel neither can be launched with ball cartridge.
I wonder if they just used ordinary Russian pre WW1 blank cartridges which have a short "bulled" wrapped from thick paper?

The above link to the Russian website (provided by Ivashkin) talks about a SPECIAL grenade blank (При первом способе гранату стержнем вставляли в канал ствола винтовки так, чтобы своим дном она упиралась в дульный срез. Для стрельбы в этом случае применялись особые холостые патроны.). I have many blanks. My question is how a special grenade blank (особые холостые патроны) differs from a regular blank? Is it coloured differently or there is something in the headstamp?
